Yesterday I lost a very dear friend... I'm saddened and devastated....... Words cannot express the loss. The last time I was this sad was when I lost my father. My heart is breaking for Sherry and Ayla, their loss is incomprehensible.
I cannot remember the first time I met Shane McConkey but it must have been 15 years ago or so at Squaw Valley. Jimbo Morgan and Brad Holmes told me that I should meet this guy Shane that had big cajones….from our very first introduction I grew to love, respect (and laugh my ass off with) Shane.
Shane was passionate about life. He was funny, friendly, creative, patient, and one of the most loyal friends I have ever known. He was a devoted Husband and Father. I had the unique good fortune to ride with him many times over the past 15 years. Although I could never keep up with him, he would always be patiently waiting for me at the bottom of the run, smiling, ready to ride the lift back up.
Over the past 25 years I have had the opportunity to know and sponsor some of the greatest skateboarders, snowboarders, surfers, skiers and musicians in the world. Shane was the very best of the best. Next to Steve Caballero, Shane McConkey has been sponsored by Sessions longer than any other athlete in the Sessions family. He will be forever missed.
