Getting an On Deck is not an easy feat anymore. You have to be one of the top up and coming riders in the game for Snowboarder to dedicate two pages to you. Now imagine getting an On Deck in the annual Snowboarder guest editor issue, whom the guest editors are JP Walker and Jeremy Jones. If that's not enough, how cool would it be to have JP Walker pick you out of all the potential riders out there and have him interview you and write your intro to your On Deck.

SESSIONS Get to Know a Pro!
and,
Do you have any tattos?
If so where, and what is the meaning behind them?
Thank you for taking the time to read my questions.
(:
Kelley.
As for question one, the human boy wins. The shark dies because he is in fresh water and the donkey dies because he cannot swim. Right???
I do not have any tats though. If I could get some tats that would go away in like a year or two I would load up on em. Full on neck, back and sleeves. I have some friends that do the sweetest illustrations that I would love to slap on the ol body. I would like to get some Montana stuff cause that is where I am from and grew up. Some beavers, lions, sharks and stuff doing human actions would be sweet too. Like a big fat beaver smoking a cig or chewing on Pinocchio's leg would be ill.

NIKLAS GETS 6TH PLACE IN KOREA
Swedish Sessions rider Niklas Mattsson just keeps stepping up his game! He made his World Cup Big Air debut in London earlier this fall and placed 9th in Stockholm a couple of weeks ago. This weekend he managed to top that in Seoul, Korea and ended up 6th in the final after being 2nd in the Qualifications.
Our Union Shredder Zebastian Landmark was also in the competition and ended up in the 19th place. Hats of to both our young guns!

SESSIONS Get to Know a Pro!!!
This weeks question is from Danika Richard,
Tara, Im a 14 year old girl and I want to become a pro rider like you....so I
was wondering what are the best (small) contest you have been to when you where younger and started snowboarding?
Hey girl, when I was 14 I had just barely started getting into contest so good job in getting out there and givin it a go. There are a lot more contest these days. I did some USASA and Grand Prix’s. Those maybe a little harder to get into now but Jams like the Peanut Butter rail jams are cool and fun.
Small contest pop up all the time like the Flaunt it Tour....I don’t think that going anymore but just keep your eye out for ones like that and register early. I’m sure your local mountain does some to. Any contest is good experience and a good way to be seen to get noticed. USASA’s are more of a circuit but they are GREAT!! And very Organized.
Hope that helps and hope to see you out there. Ill remember your Name.
Keep having fun!!
TD
Happy Birthday Tim!

SESSIONS, Get to know a Pro!
Hey Chris. I must say I worked pretty hard for it, but got lucky as well. I was just riding a lot, and accidentally met an older Finnish pro who talked me to a brand. I got a chance to travel and shoot a lot of photos, film etc. and of course meet new people, and somehow things started rolling. I went to few contests as well, but mostly it was just a slow process of riding a lot, believing in myself and having a bit of luck in the mix.

Well growing up in northern Minnesota where there isn’t much snowboarding going on except for at your local hill. Once i graduated from high school I moved to Tahoe to ride some real mountains. So towards the end of the first year i was at Northstar I met this filmer who was shooting a edit for twsnow.com. I ended up filming with the guy and I got a few shots for the edit. About a week after the edit was posted a rep from flow called me up asking if i wanted pick up some gear. At the time I was riding one of my friends boards that i broke while borrowing it from him. The next season there was a couple pros from flow in Tahoe shooting for the week. They invited me up to ride with them. I got a photo that made it into snowboarder-Mag. After shooting with them that week they put me on the team.

I just rode for fun everyday at my home mountain Mammoth. I became friends with a local shredder named Matt Downey. He got me hooked up with the Burton rep and it stemmed from there. Just start out small and work your way up. Don't ever forget that your snowboarding for fun and that you want to get better for your own satisfaction and nothing else. If you have to, move somewhere where there’s a higher level of snowboarding going on. It will help you progress and it's easier to meet people with connections and get noticed. Contests are a good way to win money but not very good for getting new sponsors. And the truth about "Sponsor me" videos is that they usually just provide a lot of laughs for whomever you send them to. Hope that helps. Cheers!

Hello there Chris,
So basically my story is pretty simple. I was in high school and was riding for the local board shop in my town in Montana. I was riding super hard everyday I could and the shop owner hyped me up to some reps. At this time I was also filming for a movie based in Montana and the reps really liked that cause it gave them some exposure appose to just riding the resort everyday. Anyway, so I got to meet some reps and I had made a full written resume with photos and video. They got pretty stoked on me and things were going really well then when I had started getting a lot more exposure the reps had pushed me onto the team managers wing and I have been doing that for the last couple years now. It all just started from being a little grommet getting the 20% discount at the local board shop then eventually got put into the right hands. Hope that helps you out Chris. Go Boardin!
